Email Sender Requirements

SPF, DKIM, and DMARC

What is it?

Google and Yahoo have announced new email sender guidelines, which require that emails being delivered to their systems to use email authentication starting February 2024. This affects all email, including emails sent from Vertical Axion systems such as AxionMail and FourStage CRM.

The full details of the requirements can be found
here for Google- https://support.google.com/a/answer/81126?visit_id=638411202551554085-582998587&rd=1
and here for Yahoo  https://blog.postmaster.yahooinc.com/post/730172167494483968/more-secure-less-spam

For all senders:

  1. Email authentication using SPF and DKIM
  2. Keep spam rates under .1%
  3. Do not send email as Gmail

For senders of more than 5,000 emails per day:

  1. Email authentication using SPF and DKIM
  2. Keep spam rates under .1%
  3. Do not send email _as_ Gmail
  4. DMARC policy in place
  5. Must pass DMARC alignment

How to Prepare?

SPF & DKIM

If you are using the AxionMail or FourStage CRM systems, then you should already have the SPF and DKIM records in place.

DMARC

Use the DMARC Inspector tool by dmarcian. https://dmarcian.com/dmarc-inspector/

Do you already have a DMARC record in place? … GREAT!

If you don’t have a DMARC record already, you can use the DMARC Record Wizard by dmarcian. https://dmarcian.com/dmarc-record-wizard/

Once you have your DMARC record created, you will then need to add the record to your domain’s DNS settings.

What Happens if I Don’t Comply?

Failure to comply with the new guidelines will result in significantly impacted email deliverability to both Google and Yahoo users. If you send over 5,000 emails per day to these accounts, the impact will be greater.
